Well, that is how we feel around here…mow every 3 days. …in MARCH for Pete’s sake. Last summer we all burned up and did not mow but about twice, now Liz has mowed the yard 3 or 4 times already in the middle of March. We aren’t complaining mind you, grateful that we won’t be shopping for hay this year and there is plenty of grass and it is barely spring! We don’t usually get this much grass until well into April.
The bluebonnets are popping up everywhere and early as well. As most of us, we had a very unusual winter, or lack thereof. The lack of cold produced a bumper crop of weeds in the hay field which we have just sprayed last week. We have 5 acres we have been trying to get grass on for 3 years now…first time, bad sprigs, second time, drought and now this year is the abundance of rain not allowing the tractors into the field. Some day we will have victory over that field and have a beautiful green pasture and I’m praying it will be this year.
Liz and I host a team sorting at our church, Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney TX. We kicked this season off a couple of weeks ago and it was great. We enjoy team sorting and as competitive as Liz is, she is already talking of going to several in the north Texas area.
I am getting a brand new knee tomorrow, Wed. 21st. I was thinking about putting my old knee in a jar and selling it on e-bay….maybe I just might get a hit or two. I am thrilled to get this over and have a new knee, has a 30 year warranty and I plan on seeing it through.
Upon closing, the rescue colt, Pistol, that we have talked so much about had to be put down this week. He was born with one leg a little crooked. We tried to fix this by corrective trimming, but as he aged, it worsened. He was nearly two years old and it broke our heart to do that, but we had no choice as he was starting to limp and could not run without tripping. The vet said it would eventually seize and the inevitable would happen, so there was no sense in pro longing. He was the product of a starving mother, born malnourished. Shame on these people and all like them! He is at peace and rest here on the ranch.
That does it folks. We hope everyone is fine and hanging in there…we are.
Happy Trails and God Bless you all
Kilroy and Liz
